Annnnd I’m back after nearly a week on hiatus. And holy crap, what a week. Instead of some long-winded, annoying paragraph, I’m going to jump right into the deep end and share this week’s fun and excitement. You’re welcome.
A Week Without the Internet
Let’s talk about the elephant in the room: Did I survive a week without the Internet?
Um, nope. I started writing this on a Tuesday night while drinking a glass of Pinot Grigio and watching several re-runs of The Big Bang Theory. As it turns out, I had shit to do. Important shit. I became a student member of the Society of Professional Journalists for one thing. For another, I had to spend time working on looking for this thing called employment. More on that in just a bit.
Did I learn anything? Well, yeah. Although I was online again (not counting my phone) only two days after the challenge began, I did notice I had far less of a need or desire to even be on the computer. It was refreshing. I went online because I had a need to do so, not because I was bored and looking for stuff to do.
I Got A New Car!
Okay, technically there was no real need to get a newer, better car and frankly, it’s no one’s business why we chose to upgrade. For a short, simple answer, the fact is that I was not comfortable with my Elantra in many ways. We bought it out of desperation for a second car a year ago. Read: I didn’t spend much time looking for something I really wanted. This time, I got what I liked and what I wanted.
Initially I was searching for a Ford Focus but when I drove the 2008 Hyundai Santa Fe above I was hooked. Gorgeous color, roomy interior, smooth driving, excellent air conditioning, and comfy seats. I suddenly became Wayne in Wayne’s World except, instead of a woman, I was talking about a car. “She will be mine. Oh yes, she will be mine.”
Shameless sort of plug: If you’re in Vegas and looking at buying a new/used car, I do strongly recommend going to Ford Country in Henderson. Their staff is incredibly friendly and helpful without being pushy or annoying.
Chasing the Almighty Dollar
Or, how my sexy new Santa Fe with its so-so gas mileage and higher monthly payment than the Elantra means it would be wise for me to put serious effort into finding a part-time job.
I’ve wanted to get back into the workforce for some time now but I’ve been clueless about what I want to do or perhaps what I should do. Although I realize beggars can’t be choosers, I do have some criteria for what I’d like in employment. I’m flexible but I’m aiming to move up in this world and find something I know I can be at for awhile and not be bored. This could be tricky and potentially frustrating.
About a week and a half or so ago I auditioned for Blogger Idol, which is a blogging…uh, contest? Yea, let’s go with that. Their awesome hashtag is #writersarethenewrockstars or, without the hashtag “Writers are the new rock stars.” Unfortunately, I was not chosen. I’m bummed and kind of annoyed but hey, not everyone can make it. That’s life, right?
Final Wrap Up
There’s actually quite a bit for me to write about but it would take a few hours of writing, some research, and processing images. Plus, some of these would actually be better as stand alone posts so I’ll save those for another day. As for next week, well, there’s already a couple things on my calendar. Hmm. When did I suddenly get a life?!
I hope everyone had a great week. Now, time for me to get off the Internet. Since it’s only Friday I’m technically not supposed to be online just yet. Shh… Coffee, anyone?
